What’s a Summer Spark?
A Summer Spark is an engaging challenge and a supportive community that lead to hands-on exploration, design, and creation through which creative problem solving and collaboration skills are developed and confidence is bolstered. Successfully completing a challenge or realizing a goal leads to taking on a greater challenge or setting a more ambitious goal at the next opportunity. An upward spiral is established, potential ignited.
Should my child bring a lunch?
Campers should bring a lunch, snacks, and a water bottle with them each day. There are also simple snacks provided by Summer Spark such as pretzels, goldfish, and granola bars. Campers are free to snack and hydrate as they need throughout the morning and afternoon. Thirty minutes are set aside each day so that campers can take their time refueling over lunch.
What should my child wear?
Campers should come in comfortable clothes that can get messy. They will be moving around and working with a variety of materials, some of which may end up on their clothing.
Does my child need sunscreen?
Campers will have time outside each day, so if you would like them to wear sunscreen, please apply it in the morning before they come.
How many children can attend each week?
There is space for 50 campers each week, split into two groups of about 25.
What is the ratio of campers to counselors?
There will be 1 adult counselor for every 10-15 campers. Some weeks, there may also be middle or high school aged apprentice counselors.
What ages does the camp serve?
The camp serves students entering 1st – 6th grades.
How many years has this camp been in operation?
2017 will be Summer Spark’s fourth summer.
What are the hours?
Camp hours are 8:00am – 6:00pm, Monday – Friday. The regular camp day is from 8:30am – 3:30pm with flexible drop-off from 8am – 9am and the option of extended hours until 6pm.
What weeks is the camp?
Camp runs from June 12th – August 25th.
Where is the camp?
For June and July, Summer Spark will be located in downtown Austin at Headwaters School (formerly Khabele) on 801 Rio Grande, 78701.
In August, Summer Spark will be in Westlake at Acton Academy West on 3423 Bee Cave Road, 78746 (near Emler Swim School).
